I
was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I entered the United
States Air Force in 1968 and served in service of our country for twenty
years, retiring as an E-8 Senior Master Sergeant. I am married to the
former Dulce Deflin and have one grown son, Robert. I live in Sacramento,
California where I presently work in the State Department of California.
I started reading books on lost mines and buried treasures while in
my teens. I purchased my first metal detector, a Garrett’s Master Hunter,
in 1970. I now own 3 Garrett Metal Detectors, 2 White Metal detectors,
2 Fisher Metal Detectors, and a Tesoro Metal Detector. I enjoy coin
shooting and try to get out every opportunity that I can.
I have been an active member of the Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs
since 1997 and currently serve as their representative to AMDA. Since
1998, I have been active in planning, organizing, and promoting national
hunts and conventions. I, along with several members of the Sacramento
Valley Detecting Buffs, planned and organized the Boomtown or Bust treasure
hunt in Verdi, Nevada, in July 1998. I played a major part in organizing,
planning, and promoting the national convention and hunt held in Laughlin,
Nevada in October 1999. Since 2000, I have been planning and coordinating
national hunts that have been held in conjunction with the Gold Shows
put on by the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA).
Recognizing the need for an organization that will fight for our hobby,
I and several friends formed the American Metal Detecting Association
(AMDA) in September 2001. I am currently the Director of Plans and Programs.
In this capacity I plan, organize, and coordinate the activities of
the American Metal Detecting Association (AMDA) and as well, serve as
Hunt Master.
